2017 Davis Meet Weekend: Saturday Events

Saturday, April 29, 2017

8am - Cars and Coffee - Meet at the Park and Ride lot at Park & Ride lot 1813 Taylor Rd, Roseville, CA This is a very informal meeting spot to get together, chat with others, do a quick safety inspection on the cars going on the drive, discuss the route and any other details.

10am - Drive - Meet at the Park & Ride lot 1813 Taylor Rd, Roseville, CA,  start out on the drive with 2 groups. There will be a 'spirited' drive, lead by Gary Sellstrom, and a 'leisurely' drive, lead by Gary Lodge. Both will cruise up to Auburn, then take one of 2 routes down Highway 49, past Folsom Lake, stop for photo's along the way, with a final destination being The Old Spaghetti Factory 12401 Folsom Blvd, Rancho Cordova, CA. Those that chose to eat lunch can hang out, regroup after the drive, then head inside for lunch wich will start at 1pm.. Lunch is at your own expense, banquet menu (not the regular menu) typically in the $10-$20 range per person. The banquet menu can be found here.

3pm -K1 Speed -  After lunch, those that chose to will head over to K1 Speed (https://www.k1speed.com) 3130 Bradshaw Rd, Sacramento, CA 95827. This event is open to anyone over the age of 18 due to group requirements from the facility, however, if you wish to bring your kids, they can race outside the VCOA group. This will allow those who wish to have a grudge match with others in the group, or just have some fun on go-karts a chance to have some fun on the track. This will be at your own expense, the cost is $49.00, You're welcome to bring your own certified helmet if you don't want to use a loaner from the facility

2pm - Informal BBQ For those not wishing to go karting, the Sacramento Chapter VCOA President, Walter Donnell will be hosting an informal BBQ at his house (contact Walter for address, other details). RSVP's preferred. This will be a very informal event, a chance to hang out, relax after an exhilarating day in your Volvo. This is also an excellent chance for those getting into town late to come over, wind down from the drive, relax, meet some of the locals, and share stories.

Summary - If you've made it this far, you may be feeling a little overwhelmed, or feeling like you don't want to participate in every one of these events. I've got some good news for you...you don't have to participate in all of the events. You are welcome to come to any event you wish, be it just one or two events, or all of them. Even if you just wish to come to the Cars and Coffee event and the BBQ, that's fine. Just meet for lunch and karting, that's fine too. Only sign up for the events you want, make it the most fun for you. Registration can be found here.

Notes regarding the drive: Please perform a full safety check prior to arrival at the Park and Ride. This includes checking all fluids, tire pressures, make sure you have a battery hold down, nothing loose in your car to slide around, your brakes are working properly, and your tires have decent tread on them. The routes we will be taking for either drive involve winding roads, some slightly rough sections of pavement depending on water damage from the season, some steep uphill and downhill sections. Also please make sure to fill your gas tank prior to meeting for the drive, so we don't need to stop for fuel before the drive. There are no stations for approx. 30 miles of the drive. Several people usually have some selection of tools just in case, but if you're concerned or have spare parts you feel you need to bring, those are your responsibility.
